Feliz Navidad

This past week instead of going to school, I decided to do something a little more productive…

The Rotary Club invited the exchange students to help them pass out bags of candy and pills for the flu to the poorest schools near Riobamba. We gladly accepted, although mostly because we wanted to skip school. These past days, however, have been amazing not because I got out of going to school, but because I finally got to see the other side of Ecuador, not just the upper class Rotary world that all exchange students live in.

It was three days of driving out to the indigenous communities and visiting about three elementary schools a day.

The kids would run torwards us and wave when they saw us coming with big bags of candy, and would then run the other way when they saw that we wanted to give them pills…

They all happily swallowed the pills, however, when we told them that only then do they get a bag of goodies.

So, do a good deed this holiday season, and help someone who really needs it.

Feliz Navidad!
